The Principles, Policies, and Procedures: Domestic Geographic Names describes the principles and policies that the Domestic Names Committee (DNC) uses to evaluate geographic name proposals, as well as the procedures for procesing proposals, from the initial submission through the documentation and promulgation of the DNC's decision. The current version of the DNC's Principles, Policies, and Procedures: Domestic Geographic Names is 1.0, dated December 2016.

The DNC is currently developing an implementation plan for Policy X: Tribal Names (Interim). Until the plan is complete and implemented, Policy X: Names of Native American Origin, from the 1997 edition of the Principles, Policies, and Procedures: Domestic Geographic Names, remains in effect.
